The Doctors at Mission Family Chiropractic are trained in nutrition and how diet affects your health and well-being. At Mission Family Chiropractic, nutrition comprises more than simply eating three meals a day. The chiropractic profession views nutrition as the materials needed to maintain and improve your health, and includes the vitamins, mineral, and supplements to achieve this. Some foods should be avoided, while others consumed more frequently.

The food that we eat today is much different than it was 20 years ago.  It has far fewer vitamins, minerals, and powerful substances that help us defend against diseases.  This is due to the early harvesting techniques used to prolong the life of fruits and vegetables so they can be shipped all over the world.  Also, the soil from which our food is grown has been depleted of the essential nutients we need.  Have you noticed how the FDA has continually raised the recommended daily allowances for fruits and vegetables over the years?

There are two things everyone needs to eliminate from their diets immediately!
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup - We find this in a variety of foods.  It is a cheap, artificial sweetner many companies use to enhance the flavor of their foods and prolong the shelving life.  HFCS is found in soda, candy, fruit juice drinks, processed foods and bread to name a few.
  • Trans Fats - Trans fats are very common in processed foods and also increase the shelf life.  Trans fats can be recognized in products by looking for "partially hydrogenated vegetable (corn, soy) oil in the ingredients list.  Be aware that the FDA allows companies to advertise "0 grams trans fats" as long as the amount in 1 serving size is under 0.5 grams.

These two additives have be proven to cause heart disease, diabetes, cancer, Ahlzeimer's disease, obesity, liver dysfunction and infertility.

You should avoid:

    •    Smoking and Alcohol
    •    White refined sugar and candy
    •    “Junk Food” and empty calories
    •    Caffeine, found in coffee and cola drinks
    •    Salt and foods high in salt content

You should increase your intake of:

    •    Water
    •    Fruits and Vegetables
    •    Whole grain breads and cereal
    •    Lean cut red meats
    •    Fish and Poultry
    •    Skin Milk and low fat dairy products

You should consult Mission Family Chiropractic directly for your specific nutrient requirements.  Remember, your specific condition may require special dietary requirements, Mission Family Chiropractic can help assist you with what supplements would benifit you and you can get most of them in our office!
